EmailOctopus Review

EmailOctopus is an affordable, privacy-conscious email marketing platform used by 70,000+ small businesses, creators, and nonprofits. Built on modern infrastructure, EmailOctopus offers drag-and-drop email design, automations, landing pages, and strong deliverability — at roughly half the price of Mailchimp and ConvertKit. This EmailOctopus review covers pricing, deliverability, automations, and how it compares to Mailchimp, Brevo, and MailerLite.

Up to 80% Cheaper Than Mailchimp

EmailOctopus is roughly 50–80% cheaper than Mailchimp and Constant Contact at comparable list sizes — same deliverability, same feature set, without the enterprise markup.

Generous Free Plan

The free tier includes 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 emails per month with no credit card — the most generous free plan among serious email-marketing tools.

Drag-and-Drop Email Builder

Drag-and-drop email builder with pre-designed blocks, custom fonts and brand colors — design on-brand emails in minutes, preview on mobile and desktop before sending.

Automation Workflows

Build welcome series, drip sequences, behavior-based flows and date-triggered campaigns in a visual automation canvas with if/else branching and delays.

Landing Pages & Signup Forms

Build unlimited unbranded landing pages and embeddable signup forms with double opt-in, custom fields, popup mode and basic A/B variant testing.

A/B Testing

Native A/B testing on subject lines, sender names and content with statistical-winner auto-send on the remainder of the list — no premium plan required.

Segmentation & Tagging

Tag subscribers automatically based on source, opens, clicks or custom fields and send targeted campaigns to segments without maintaining duplicate lists.

Deliverability-First Infrastructure

Runs on Amazon SES with authenticated SPF/DKIM/DMARC, dedicated IP options and strict list-hygiene automation — inbox rates competitive with the biggest enterprise ESPs.

Pros

  • Among the most affordable email platforms — Pro plans roughly half of Mailchimp
  • Generous free plan (2,500 subscribers, 10,000 emails/month)
  • Clean modern UI and strong deliverability reputation
  • No forced double opt-in — works for lists migrated from elsewhere

Cons

  • Automation builder is less visual than ActiveCampaign or Drip
  • Fewer native integrations than Mailchimp or Brevo
  • Reporting is functional but lighter than enterprise tools
  • No CRM or sales features — purely email-focused
  • One-click ad creative generation for Meta, Google, TikTok, and LinkedIn
  • Creative Scoring AI predicts conversion performance before launch
  • AI text generator for headlines, descriptions, and CTAs
  • AI product photography and video ads from a single image
  • Competitor Insight AI for tracking rival top-performing ads
  • Direct integrations with Meta Ads Manager and Google Ads
  • Brand kit system with unlimited generations on paid plans
  • Unlimited iStock photos bundled on higher tiers ($900 value)
  • 7-day free trial available on Starter, Professional, and Ultimate plans
  • Limited mobile-first ad sizes flagged by some Capterra reviewers
  • Trial-to-paid billing and refund flow criticized in public Trustpilot reviews
  • Customization and manual design control more limited than full design tools

Moved from Mailchimp to EmailOctopus when my list hit 8,000 subscribers — cut my email bill from $135/month to $40/month for the same sending volume. Deliverability has actually been better, and the drag-and-drop builder is cleaner. Only thing I miss is some of Mailchimp’s niche integrations, but Zapier covers most gaps.

EmailOctopus Alternatives

If EmailOctopus does not fit your needs, popular alternatives include MailerLite (similar pricing with deeper automation builder), Brevo (email + SMS + CRM in one), Mailchimp (industry leader with the most integrations), ConvertKit (Kit) (creator-focused newsletter platform), and ActiveCampaign (strongest marketing automation).
