DeelvsRippling

Two very different platforms that get shopped for the same job. One was built to employ and pay people anywhere; the other was built to run a company’s HR, IT and finance from a single record. Here is which one fits which situation — with the numbers, a scorecard and verdicts by use case.

The short answer

Deel for global-first hiring. Rippling for a US-centred team that wants HR, IT and finance in one system.

Deel wins if international employees or contractors are core to how you build your team. It publishes every price, employs people through its own entities in far more countries, includes a free HRIS, and backs it with 24/7 in-house support and the most flexible contractor payouts in the market.

Rippling wins if your headcount is mostly in the US (or the few countries where it runs payroll on its own engine) and your bigger pain is laptops, app access, expenses and payroll living in different systems. Its global products are a capable add-on, not the centre of the platform.

Pick Deel when…

  • You hire employees in several countries and want one provider that is the legal employer in most of them
  • You pay contractors in many currencies and want them to choose how they are paid
  • You want published per-person pricing you can model before a sales call
  • You want immigration, device logistics and background checks from the same vendor

Pick Rippling when…

  • Most of your people are in the US, UK, Canada, Australia or another market where Rippling runs payroll natively
  • Device management, identity/app provisioning and spend control matter as much as payroll
  • You plan to open your own entities soon and want EOR hires to move onto your own payroll in the same system
  • You are fine with quote-based pricing in exchange for a single platform contract

First, get the three product lines straight

Most Deel-vs-Rippling comparisons quietly compare the wrong products. The right one depends on a single question: who is the legal employer — you, or the provider?

Employer of Record (EOR)

The provider legally employs your hire in a country where you have no entity. It runs local payroll, benefits and filings and carries the employment liability; you direct the work. Priced per employee per month, on top of salary and employer taxes.

Use when: you have no entity in that country.

Global Payroll

You already own the entity. The provider calculates gross-to-net, files taxes and pays your people — but you remain the employer. Much cheaper per head than EOR; usually carries an implementation fee per entity.

Use when: you own the entity and need payroll run for you.

Contractor Management

For independent contractors who invoice you. The platform generates localized contracts, collects tax forms, handles invoices and pays out in local currency. Nobody is an employer. A Contractor of Record tier shifts misclassification risk to the provider.

Use when: the worker is self-employed.

Why it matters here: Deel built its business on EOR and contractor payments and added payroll-on-your-own-entity later. Rippling built its business on payroll and HRIS and added EOR and contractor payments later. That origin story explains almost every row in the table below.

Scorecard: six criteria, out of 5

Scores reflect fit for cross-border hiring and payroll. In a comparison of US HRIS suites Rippling would score higher; that is not the job either platform is being evaluated for here.

Deel: per-person list prices for every line

Those are management fees. On top you pay salary, employer contributions and any benefits, which Deel quotes per country before you confirm a hire. The upside is modelling: a finance lead can estimate the cost of ten EOR employees in three countries in an afternoon, without a sales call.

Rippling: a platform fee plus quoted modules

Rippling’s core platform is required for every module — you cannot buy Rippling EOR or Global Payroll on their own. EOR, international payroll and contractor payments are priced by quote based on country mix and headcount. Several independent 2026 reviews report EOR fees starting around $499–$599 per employee per month plus a monthly platform minimum, but Rippling does not publish those numbers, so treat them as indicative.

In practice Rippling can be competitive — occasionally cheaper — for a company buying several modules at once on an annual contract. It is rarely the cheaper option for a company that just needs to employ five people abroad.

Ask both vendors before you compare totals: whether a security deposit applies per EOR employee in your countries; implementation fees on global payroll; the FX markup on international payroll; and how terminations are handled (local severance rules apply through any EOR).

Country coverage and the entity model

Country counts are the most-quoted and least-understood number in this market. The useful question is not “how many countries?” but “who is the legal employer in my countries, and who do I call when something goes wrong there?”

Bars scaled to 185 countries. Each figure is the vendor’s own stated coverage; owned-entity and partner-served countries are not directly comparable.

Deel states it provides full legal employment in 130+ countries and operates owned entities in 150+ countries, with in-house payroll teams and HR experts in the markets it serves. The owned-entity model matters when an employee has a dispute and you need the actual employer in the room, when local law changes and the entity must adapt its contracts rather than wait on a partner, and when you want consistent benefits and onboarding across countries. Deel’s single native payroll engine across 50+ countries is also why it can show real-time gross-to-net figures before a pay run is committed.

Rippling offers EOR in 80+ countries. It owns entities in a subset (independent reviews put the figure at roughly 30–40) and partners with local providers for the rest. Its native payroll engine covers the US and a short list of other markets — the UK, Canada and Australia are the ones it highlights — and in those countries the product is excellent: hire via EOR today, move the same employee onto your own entity’s payroll later, no re-onboarding. For contractors Rippling reaches 185+ countries and 50+ currencies, which is on par with Deel.

Decision rule: list the countries you expect to hire in over the next 24 months. If most are in Rippling’s native-payroll markets, the gap narrows a lot. If the list includes Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia or Eastern Europe, Deel’s owned-entity footprint is the safer bet.

Compliance support

Deel runs a worker classification assessment on each new hire (contractor vs employee), generates locally compliant employment agreement templates for 150+ countries, and maintains a Compliance Hub that flags new regulations and potential violations across your workforce. Its Knowledge Hub provides curated legal, tax and labour guidance per country, and Deel AI answers HR and compliance questions in-app and in Slack. EOR employees get an in-country HR team. These are the tools a lean people team without in-house employment counsel will lean on most.

Rippling approaches compliance through its policy engine. Because every employee record carries location, role and compensation data, you can build rules that enforce minimum wage, overtime, leave entitlements and document collection automatically. It maintains compliance monitoring where it runs payroll natively; in partner-run EOR countries the compliance work happens at the partner level with Rippling providing oversight.

Which fits you: Rippling suits a company whose complexity is mostly internal policy (who approves what, which documents are required). Deel suits a company whose complexity is jurisdictional (twelve countries, twelve labour codes). Neither removes your obligations entirely: contractor misclassification risk stays with you unless you buy the Contractor of Record tier from either vendor.

Platform and user experience

This is Rippling’s strongest category and it would be unfair to pretend otherwise. Its “one employee record” architecture means a single onboarding trigger can create a payroll record, order a laptop, provision Google Workspace and Slack, enrol benefits and assign training. Its report builder and workflow studio are more flexible than Deel’s. Admins who have lived with three or four disconnected tools describe Rippling as a relief.

Deel has prioritised the hiring-and-paying path: creating a contractor agreement, onboarding an EOR employee, running a global payroll and paying everyone in a click are fast and well-designed. Deel HR covers the HRIS basics at no extra cost, and Deel has added IT (device logistics and MDM in 130+ countries), Engage (performance, learning, surveys), compensation and workforce planning. The breadth is real, but it can feel like several products under one login, and a company that only needs one of them may find the navigation heavier than it would like.

On the worker side, Deel’s contractor app is the better experience: 15+ withdrawal methods, access to earned pay up to 30 days early, a global debit card, and in-platform access to local tax advisors. Rippling’s contractor flow is tidy but conventional.

Customer support

Deel runs a 100% in-house support team distributed across 49 countries with 24/7 availability by phone, chat, email, WhatsApp, WeChat, Slack and Teams. It publishes a 4.8/5 G2 support rating and says most EOR and contractor issues are resolved in minutes via live chat. For a company with workers across time zones, support that answers at 3 a.m. somewhere is not a luxury.

Rippling provides in-app chat and email support with dedicated account management on larger plans; reviews are generally positive for US payroll and HR questions. For global EOR issues the chain is longer, because the legal employer in many countries is a partner rather than Rippling. With a small international headcount this is minor; with a large one it is a reason to prefer Deel.

Verdicts by use case

A single winner would be misleading. Here is the call for the five situations we see most often.

1

A startup hiring its first engineers abroad Deel

No foreign entities, a small people team, three or four hires in different countries this quarter. Deel’s owned-entity EOR, published $599 starting price, month-to-month terms and free HRIS let you onboard fast and model the cost before you talk to anyone. Rippling would mean buying its core platform plus a quoted EOR module for a handful of hires.

2

A contractor-heavy business (agencies, marketplaces, media) Deel

Paying dozens of contractors across many countries comes down to payout flexibility, localized contracts and classification checks. Deel’s 120+ currencies, 15+ withdrawal methods, Contractor of Record option and worker-side app are the stronger package. Rippling’s 185+ country reach is comparable; the worker experience and pricing transparency are not.

3

A US-centred company consolidating HR, IT and finance Rippling

Most employees in the US, a few in the UK or Canada, and the real pain is laptops, app access, expenses and a payroll system that disagrees with your HRIS. Rippling’s single-record platform is built for exactly this, and its native payroll in those markets avoids EOR fees entirely. Add Rippling EOR for the occasional hire elsewhere.

4

A mid-market company running payroll on its own entities in many countries Deel

One calculation engine across 50+ countries, real-time gross-to-net, and a managed-partner layer (Payroll Connect) for the rest give Deel the breadth this needs. Rippling’s global payroll is strong where it is native and partner-run beyond that — the fragmentation you are trying to remove.

5

A company opening its own entities within 12 months Rippling (in native markets)

If those countries are ones where Rippling runs payroll natively, its EOR-to-own-entity transition is the smoothest in the market: the employee record simply moves from Rippling’s entity to yours. Outside those markets, Deel supports the same transition and has the entity coverage to do it in far more places.

Bottom line

Deel is the stronger global employment platform: more owned entities, published pricing, better contractor payments, broader compliance tooling and 24/7 in-house support. Rippling is the stronger workforce platform for a US-heavy company that wants HR, IT and finance to share one record. If “hire anywhere” is the brief, start with Deel. If “run everything from one system” is the brief and your people are mostly in Rippling’s core markets, start with Rippling.

Frequently asked questions

Is Deel or Rippling better for hiring international employees?

Deel. It provides full legal employment in 130+ countries through its own entities, publishes its EOR starting price ($599 per employee per month) and includes a free HRIS. Rippling’s EOR covers 80+ countries through a mix of owned entities and partners and is priced by quote on top of its core platform.

Which is cheaper, Deel or Rippling?

It depends on what you buy. Deel’s published starting prices are $599 per EOR employee, $49 per contractor and $29 per employee for global payroll on your own entities. Rippling publishes only a core platform price (from $8 per user per month) and quotes EOR, payroll and contractor fees. For a small international headcount Deel is usually cheaper and easier to estimate; for a large US team buying several Rippling modules it can go either way.

What is the difference between EOR and global payroll?

With an Employer of Record, the provider is the legal employer of your hire in a country where you have no entity. With global payroll, you already own the entity and the provider only calculates and runs payroll on your behalf — you stay the employer. EOR costs more per head because it carries employment liability; global payroll is cheaper but requires you to have set up the entity.

Does Rippling own its entities for EOR?

Partly. Rippling owns entities in a subset of the 80+ countries where it offers EOR and works with in-country partners elsewhere. Deel states it owns entities across its coverage and runs in-house payroll teams in the countries it serves.

Can I pay contractors with both platforms?

Yes. Deel supports contractor payouts in 120+ currencies with 15+ withdrawal methods (including PayPal, Payoneer, Wise, Coinbase and a global debit card) from $49 per contractor per month, with a Contractor of Record option from $325. Rippling pays contractors in 185+ countries and 50+ currencies and offers Agent-of-Record and Contractor-of-Record models, priced by quote.

Does Deel include an HRIS?

Yes. Deel HR (org charts, onboarding, time off, documents and automated workflows) is included with EOR and contractor plans at no extra cost. Rippling’s HRIS is the core of its platform, priced per user, and required for every other Rippling module.

Which platform is better for IT and device management?

Rippling. Device management, app provisioning and identity are native to Rippling and tightly linked to its HR record. Deel offers Deel IT (device procurement and logistics in 130+ countries plus MDM and SSO integrations), which is capable, but IT is not the centre of Deel’s platform the way it is for Rippling.
