Google Social Search

  • Phrase search 

Putting double quotes around a phrase tells Google social search to not change the order of words when searching. For example, if you type in “Free Competitions UK” and hit enter, it will only show pages with that exact phrase without any changes.

  • Terms you want to exclude 

To exclude pages with a specific word, put the minus sign in front of it and make sure there is a space before. For example:

Online Competitions Winners -USA

will exclude all references to “USA” from the search results.

  • The OR operator

Google Social Search’s default is to consider all the words in a search. If you want to specifically allow either one of several words, use the OR operator (note that you have to type ‘OR’ in ALL CAPS). For example, query

will give you results about either one of these two words.

Search Users

Start searching profiles of users by Name or Surname in the following 6 networks: Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+, Vimeo and Dailymotion.

Results are sorted by relevance together with the network importance which is then followed by a profile link for each found user and their name. Additional data depending on input source might contain description icon or influence metric when available from any given social network as well as links to other profiles at some networks (Facebook).

Search Settings

Keywords

To search a particular topic or keyword, first, enter the keywords into the appropriate input field. The “Exact Keywords” text input will allow you to search for posts with your specified words appearing in that order and location. The “Keywords” text input is used for any word combination as long as it does not exceed 3-4 words( ten at most).Registered users can save their searches by pressing on Save button after entering the necessary information into those inputs.

Sources

You can exclude social media networks you don’t want to be monitored by checking and unchecking them in the search flow. The web-based monitoring is only available for the Social Monitoring option.

Posts Types

This setting is based on segmentation of the posts by content:

– Video post has an attached video or a link to the famous video share services like Youtube, Vimeo etc.

– Photo post has an attached image or a link with the *.jpg, *.png, *.gif in the end.

– Status posts have only text content.

– Link post has an attached link, which doesn’t seem to be a video or an image content type.

Locale

They offer the possibility to add 10 more languages. Sentiment analytics is available in English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian Dutch and Spanish.

Search Results

Generally, posts in the search results have similar fields for all the social networks.

User info: name, profile link and a small photo.

Post message: message text, sentiment, attached link and embed image or video.

Post info: type, date and popularity.

Post tags: user defined tags for the post.

Analytics

General

Tab General is a feature which has summary information about posts, like the number of posts by social network and by week day. Hashtags can be accessed through this tab and show what are most used hashtags with a clickable map.

Sentiment

Post sentiment is calculated by the Positive and Negative word collection. Posts with a positive sentiment will have green squares in their upper right corner, while they are represented on the summary chart with a green bar.

Users

Popularity is a measure of the amount of attention something has received, and active users are people who have posted on that particular website in the past. The most popular user will be ranked among other similar-type users according to their popularity score. 

They may also appear at the top or near it if they have an extremely high ranking. A person’s rank can change as time goes by with more posts being made by others, since new content always ranks higher than old content when appearing in search engine results pages

Links Domains

Here you will find summary statistics about top domains, as well as the most popular and shared links per social network in search results.

Posts Types

The charts are a representation of the distribution of content types in search results. For example, an image might be one type while text-based articles would be another (or maybe not). The analytics chart is designed to help you identify what people are looking for on your site and how they’re using it by giving insights into trends. It also provides data about negative content like spam or irrelevant links that can hurt traffic numbers.

Keywords

The information is collected and aggregated to be used for statistical analysis. With the help of keywords, analytics can determine what messages are most popular among users or which kinds of content drive more traffic to social media pages.

Exporting posts

The “Export” button allows you to export the search results for a particular time period. You can also use it when work with saved searches that are monitored by RSS-feeds, and not only those displayed on this page. This way you can keep your cache up-to-date in case new posts appear during Monitoring function

Social Monitoring

Premium Social Monitoring feature for the saved search is available for the premium plans. Switch ON “monitoring” to enable caching of the search results by system and store your data as long as your subscription is active. Select one of the time periods.

When you first log in, the next page shows where your account limit is defined. If it needs to be changed, go to Account settings and set a new limit on your Free or Premium account. 

The number of requests shown corresponds with what type of plan you have: free accounts are limited by 100 requests per day while premium ones get 1000 posts per month (1 request = 1 post). To follow up on all saved searches that need monitoring, find them under Saved Searches.
